The head of Commercial at iBurst, Steve Briggs, says nothing will change. We should not get our hopes up, that breaking through a monopoly (which the current connention via the only other undersea cable is) will change a thing. Of course he does not want anything to change, it is to easy to earn money that way. Other companies say that there is much potential for prices to go down or caps to go up, which is the same.
Now speculation is rife - on the mybroadband.co.za there is an article about how prices will drop when the delayed (by just one month) seacom cable will be switched on. So I will also start speculating. We're all right, for now.
But there is just one thing that needs a bit of explaining: If South Africa has always had bandwidth issues - why then can more and more people be connected to adsl every month. In theory the only exsiting undersea cable should have been clogged a very long time ago.
